Integrated Pest Management (IPM): Keeping Your Grow Clean

The best way to deal with pests is to never get them in the first place. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a proactive, preventative strategy focused on keeping your grow room clean and making it an inhospitable place for pests and diseases to take hold.

1. Start with Clean Genetics

This is the most important step, and you’ve already done it by starting with our clones! All our mother plants are kept in a sterile environment and are regularly inspected to ensure they are 100% free of pests and diseases. Never bring clones from an unknown source into your garden.

2. Keep Your Grow Room Spotless

Pests thrive in messy environments. Regularly clean your grow space. Remove all dead leaves and plant debris from the floor. Wipe down your walls and floors between cycles. A clean room is the first line of defense.

3. Control Your Environment

Many pests, like spider mites, thrive in hot, dry conditions with stagnant air. Powdery mildew loves high humidity and poor airflow. By maintaining optimal temperature, humidity, and constant air circulation with fans, you make it much harder for these common issues to establish themselves.

4. Use Yellow Sticky Traps

Place yellow sticky traps around your grow room, just above the plant canopy. These are not a solution for an infestation, but they are an incredible early warning system. By checking them daily, you can spot pests like fungus gnats or thrips before they become a major problem.

5. Consider Beneficial Insects

Fight fire with fire. Releasing beneficial insects, such as predatory mites to hunt spider mites or ladybugs to eat aphids, is a fantastic organic and preventative measure. They patrol your plants and eliminate pests before you even know they are there.

6. Preventative Sprays (Use with Caution)

If you are concerned about pests, a light, preventative spray with an organic product like Neem Oil or insecticidal soap during the vegetative stage can be effective. Crucially, never spray anything on your plants during the flowering stage, as it will affect the final taste and quality of your buds.
